Yogetsu Akasaka is a Japanese Zen Buddhist monk who creates meditation music. But not the kind most people are familiar with. In the videos he uploads to YouTube, he stands in the middle of a white background, picks up a microphone and plays a loop machine.

This practicing monk and music lover has amassed tens of thousands of views on YouTube videos of him performing beatboxing in traditional robes. His videos can help you sleep, focus, meditate, and more.

Before becoming a monk in 2015, Akasaka was an actor in a theater company and also a keen beatboxer . I was used to playing on the streets, often in countries like Australia or the United States, so making music was always second nature. Now, he uses his skills in incorporating Buddhist chants into his beatboxing recordings to create his own subgenres of music.

‘Heart Sutra Beatbox Remix’ went viral around the world.
May this phenomenon heal the world.

His music is reduced to the use of his loop machine, sounds and chants, all coming from one instrument: his voice .

Whether you’re looking for something to help you focus fully, heighten your sense of attention, or drift off peacefully to sleep, Yogetsu Akasaka’s music has a wide variety of mixes available to incorporate into your daily routine.
