Uwabaki (上履き) – Indoor Slippers in Japan

Indoor slippers are called Uwabaki (上履き) and are generally worn inside schools in Japan. Before entering, students must change their shoes for these slippers in order to keep the floors inside the school cleaner and in good condition. They are made of cloth and the sole, depending on the manufacturer, is made of rubber or soft plastic.

They are of various colors. Some schools give each grade or class a color to distinguish between them and to be easier to identify them, especially in times of emergency or natural disasters.

There are also different types, such as sneakers or closed shoes, although the ones in the previous photo are the ones that are generally used.
