The Art of Origami inspires European Furniture Design

At this year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair, art and design studio Front and European Furniture Group (EFG) presented Ori , a modular sofa system that encapsulates the minimalist, geometric beauty of Japanese origami . Ori’s five modules can be used individually or configured together to suit any room, both in the home and contract spaces. Like paper folding, Ori’s visual appeal is its pleated structure. It imbues a calm that comes in the visual of perfect symmetry that can be seen from all angles.

Front is known for experimenting with visual styles, so the designers began the design process by exploring folded paper models. From there, they developed a sofa that features organic shapes and symmetrical pleated embellishments. The recessed wooden base further enhances the sofa’s overall profile by keeping the focus on the more complex structure.
