Today we bring you this recipe for mochi with sweet potato!

Sweet potatoes are one of the very characteristic flavors of autumn in Japan. When baked, their sweet flavor is concentrated, making it a delicious snack, especially on cold autumn days.

Ingredients for “Imo Mochi”

– 1 medium sweet potato (400g approx.)
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt
– 2 teaspoons of sugar
– 3 tablespoons of potato starch (for a better mochi-like texture)
– 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and mirin
– 2 tablespoons of sugar
– Vegetable oil to taste
– 1 tablespoon milk, as needed

How to do

1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into semicircular slices. Put in a heat resistant container, pour water and heat in the microwave at 600 W for 4 minutes. Flip and microwave for an additional 4 minutes.

NOTE: If you don’t have a microwave you can boil them and have them cooked to make a puree.

If you feel that the sweet potatoes are not moist enough after microwaving or boiling them, you can add a tablespoon of milk.

2. Drain and puree, then add 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and 3 tablespoons of potato starch.

3. Mix everything and shape into balls.

4. In a frying pan add enough oil to brown the imo-mochi on both sides.

5. Remove the imo-mochi from the pan and add one tablespoon of soy sauce and mirin and 2 tablespoons of sugar to the pan and heat over low heat.

6. Once it thickens, return the imo-mochi to the pan and cover it well and voila!

You can easily make this dish with ingredients you have at home, so why not give it a try?
