OMURAISU – JAPANESE OMELETTE
An example of Japanese fusion cuisine is omuraisu , a very popular dish that can be found on the menus of many Japanese restaurants. So easy to make for breakfast, lunch or dinner that you will love it!
Omurice (オムライス, Omu-raisu) is an example of a Western-influenced style of Japanese cuisine (fusion cuisine) consisting of an omelet made with fried rice and thin, fried scrambled eggs, usually topped with tomato sauce or ketchup! Very quick and easy to do!
Servings: 4 people
Utensils
- Skillet

Ingredients
- 200 g Chicken Breast cut into pieces
- 1 tablespoon sake or white wine
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ½ medium onion , diced
- 600 g Japanese Rice (preferably although it can be any rice) already cooked
- 6 tablespoons ketchup/catsup sauce
- ½ medium bell pepper (red)
- pepper to taste
For the Egg
- 6 beaten eggs
- 1 tablespoon cow’s milk (can also be soy)
- 1 tablespoon salt or to taste
- 4 tablespoons Butter
Preparation
- Season chicken with 1 tablespoon salt and sake (or white wine)
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a nonstick skillet and sauté the onion until citronized. Add the chicken and cook until browned.
- Add rice, tomato sauce, bell pepper, salt and pepper to taste. Mix well. Remove from heat and set aside.
- To make the egg crepe, beat the eggs with the milk and salt. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in the pan and pour in a quarter of the egg mixture.
- Pour a quarter of the rice mixture into the center of the egg crepe. Once the egg pancake is cooked, carefully fold the sides of the egg over the rice.
- Remove and place on a serving plate, placing the crepe with the folded edges inward to keep warm. Repeat this process to make 3 more servings.
- Make a cut in the top of each omeltte so the rice shows through. Garnish with tomato sauce if desired. And to enjoy!
