Japan Airlines Could Be First To Fly New Boom Overture Supersonic Passenger Plane

‘A future where everyone can fly supersonic sustainably’: Japan Airlines could be among first to commercially operate ‘ son of Concorde ‘ plane

There is much confidence in the idea that the Overture supersonic airliner , which is in development, will carry 80 passengers at Mach 1.7 , which would be twice the speed of today’s airliners.

Japan Airlines and American Airlines are most likely the launch customers for the plane, which is designed to be net zero carbon emissions and run on sustainable aviation fuel .

Almost twenty years after news of its creation broke, this jet can claim to be the ” son of Concorde ” and is taking shape at a state-of-the-art development facility in the United States.

This jet is known as Overture , from the hand of Boom Supersonic and that will soon be able to carry 80 passengers at speeds of up to 2,100 km/h), at an altitude of 18.3 km.

It is very likely that the first of this new generation of aircraft with supersonic flights will be the airline Japan Airlines .

Within the same airline it is confirmed that JAL invested 10 million dollars in Boom in 2017 and that they have been working together on the design of the plane to “improve the passenger experience with supersonic travel”.

The first of this new generation of supersonic aircraft could fly commercially for the first time in 2029 .

It is said that the minimum requirements for JAL to make the purchase are under three conditions: safety, economy and respect for the environment.

Once engine technology has caught up with what is expected, the Overture will be capable of using only sustainable aviation fuels and combined with carbon reduction initiatives will make the Overture a carbon neutral aircraft.

Overture is intended more for transoceanic routes as there are supersonic flight regulations over inhabited areas and land areas. At least 600 such routes have been identified and are expected to be attractive and therefore profitable.
