Created in cooperation with Aichi Prefecture, Ghibli Park will finally open its doors on November 1, 2022 in the city of Nagakute, although only three sections of the five planned will open.

On October 27, just days before the park’s grand opening, Studio Ghibli shared its very own “Illustrated Visitor’s Guide.” And the coolest thing is that guide is free to download on Studio Ghibli’s own site, you can see and download it here .

In the guide we can see the plan of the park with indications of what to bring, what to expect and recommendations of good behavior in the vicinity of the park.

It is its title “Great Tour Guide” referring to the opening song “Sampo” (“Ride”) from My Neighbor Totoro. The guide features illustrations in the style of Goro Miyazaki, son of Hayao Miyazaki and creator and planner of the park itself.

This guide is based on those that are distributed to students, especially elementary school students, in Japanese schools, when they go on an excursion or study trip to a nearby prefecture. That is why on the first page a box appears written at the bottom to write your name.

Within these guides, the things that will have to be taken are indicated. In the Park Ghibli guide, a list is made for hot days or for cold days.

Page 2 is where the tips begin, with illustrations of recommended clothing for hot and cold days. The park is located in partially hilly terrain that is “close to heaven,” as the Ghibli brochure puts it, meaning the altitude is high enough to recommend being prepared to deal with unpredictable weather.

for hot days
● hat
● Backpack or bag
● Long sleeves are recommended on sunny days (and to protect arms from insect bites)
● Towel (hang it from the waist optional)
● Sneakers or other easy-to-wear shoes

And for cold days
● hat
● Backpack or bag
● Gloves
● Waterproof shoes recommended on rainy days

On the other hand, the list of things to bring is:

1. Your ticket to Park Ghibli (on paper or digital)
2. Lunch in a Bento box or similar
3. Water bottle
4. A plastic blanket or similar to sit on the floor
5. Appetizers
6. Umbrella or raincoat
7. Money to spend

It is worth mentioning that if you take your food to the park, since it is not possible to eat it inside Ghibli Park, it recommends that you settle in the vicinity of the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park and in this way also visit this place.

To eat your bento, Park Ghibli recommends you eat it in the green areas! For rainy days or if the sun is very strong, he recommends the rest areas of Mikatsuki or the Information Center of the West Entrance, to be able to be covered. You can check your guide for their locations!

In this guide only the three areas that will open this 2022 appear: “The Hill of Youth”, the “Ghibli Department Store” and the “Dondoko Forest” The location of restaurants, cafes and a konbini are also indicated .
