This is how Nissin Cup Noodle will reduce tons of plastic per year
The official Nissin Cup Noodle Twitter account announced on June 4 that it will stop producing the “cover seal” that it includes on its instant food products. Instead, add one more tab to the lid so it can be closed securely after you’ve added the hot water.
This is part of Nissin’s environmental strategy on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the launch of Cup Noodles . By ceasing to produce this seal, 33 tons of plastic will be reduced annually.
This “seal” was implemented in 1984 and consists of a transparent sticker on the bottom of the glass so that the outer film can be easily peeled off and, after pouring boiling water into the glass, this seal is used to fix the upper lid and to hold heat for the 3 minutes specified by Nissin.
The official Cup Noodle Twitter account tweeted “Bye all the stickers on the lid” on the 3rd and there was a lot of talk on the internet about how the lid will then be closed to keep warm.
