Tokyo Tower (東京タワー )
Hello everyone! Today we would like to talk about the Tokyo Tower (東京タワー Tōkyō tawā) the second tallest man-made structure in Japan since the new Skytree Tower has become the tallest in Japan since April 2010. With 333 meters high and 4,000 tons It is situated in Shiba Park in the Minato district. This tower is a communications and observation tower built as a symbol of Japan’s rebirth as a great economic power. It was opened to the public on December 23, 1958.
There is a building located just below the tower called FootTown and here you can have a coffee, eat, shop at the stores or visit the Tokyo Tower Wax Museum.
If you go on a Sunday you can see performances by jugglers and street performers at the Glass Plaza in the Roof Garden in FootTown. On weekends and holidays, you can use the stairs outside the tower. At about 660 steps the stairway is an alternative to the tower elevators and leads directly to the Main Observatory.
The Main Observatory is 150 meters away with a 360 degree view of the entire Kanto region, around Tokyo. At 250 meters high is the special Observatory where you can see, for the price of another ticket and on a clear day, Mount Fuji and Mount Tsukuba and at night you can enjoy an incredible view of the bright neon lights from the city.
Since everything has its funny side, the Noppon Brothers are the mascots of Tokyo Tower. Big Brother in his blue jumpsuit and Little Brother in his red jumpsuit. They were “born” on December 23, 1998 on the occasion of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Tokyo Tower.
In popular culture Tokyo Tower is often used to immediately locate a scene in Tokyo. It has been the location of the climactic battles between Godzilla, Mothra, and King Kong, where it is frequently destroyed and rebuilt. With Skytree Tower being the tallest structure in Japan, will Godzilla and his minions bring it down as well? ^ ^
